This incident was told in the provincial seal which features a pond with a lotus flower and leaves in a circular frame. It symbolizes the ancient community of the people who fled the massacre of King Siriboonsarn of &lt;st1:city st="on"&gt;Vientiane&lt;/st1:city&gt; and came to settle in &lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:placename st="on"&gt;Nong&lt;/st1:placename&gt; &lt;st1:placename st="on"&gt;Bua&lt;/st1:placename&gt; &lt;st1:placename st="on"&gt;Lam&lt;/st1:placename&gt; &lt;st1:placename st="on"&gt;Phu&lt;/st1:placename&gt; &lt;st1:placetype st="on"&gt;Province&lt;/st1:placetype&gt;&lt;/st1:place&gt; in 1779 during the reign of King Thonburi. In 1900, the name was changed to Monthon I-San. When the Monthon system was abolished, the city has become Ubon Ratchathani province.
